Job summary

Deliverect is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for the Kiosk team in Paris. You will design, build, and run high-reliability backend services powering self-ordering kiosks, with a focus on availability during peak traffic.

You will own features end-to-end, collaborate with Android, QA, and DevOps, and mentor peers while advancing API-first architectures and CI/CD pipelines across international hubs.

Qualifications

• 6+ years backend engineering in high-traffic environments with PHP/Symfony.
• Strong autonomous work style; able to clarify fuzzy requirements and ship robust software.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and run high-reliability backend services for kiosks (ordering, payments, loyalty, menus, APIs).
• Own features end-to-end from design to testing, rollout, and monitoring.
• Lead complex integrations or migrations across cross-functional teams as an IC technical lead.
• Collaborate with Android engineers to optimize APIs for flaky networks and offline scenarios.
• Read, debug, and contribute Python code for microservices across hubs in Ghent, Toronto, and beyond.
• Integrate AI coding agents into development workflows to accelerate delivery.
• Establish observability, alerts, incident response, and post-incident analysis to maximize uptime.
• Mentor peers and share architectural knowledge.

Team Focus (On-Premise / Kiosk):

The Kiosk team builds the self-ordering experience that runs inside restaurants for enterprise brands across Europe, MENA, APAC, and the Americas. It is software that touches the physical world: Android kiosks, payment terminals, kitchen flows, unreliable restaurant networks, and peak-hour traffic. When something breaks, a customer cannot order and a restaurant loses revenue, so rock-solid reliability is a core part of the product.

Your Impact:

As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Kiosk team, you will serve as a hands-on technical lead driving the reliability, scalability, and delivery of backend services powering self-ordering kiosks worldwide. Working cross-functionally with Android, QA, and DevOps engineers, you will design robust APIs and agentic delivery workflows that directly safeguard restaurant revenue, minimize downtime, and elevate customer ordering experiences across global enterprise accounts.

*This is a full-time, hybrid role with a flexible work schedule, offering 3 days in our Paris, France office and 2 days from the comfort of your home.

What you will Bring:

• 6+ years of backend engineering experience in high-traffic production environments, with expert-level proficiency in PHP and Symfony (or a comparable modern PHP framework).
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• Strong track record of working autonomously to clarify fuzzy requirements, evaluate technical trade-offs, and ship robust software without close supervision.
• Proven experience taking technical ownership of complex initiatives as an individual contributor, such as leading architectural designs, service migrations, or cross-team integrations.
• Polyglot mindset with demonstrated comfort reading, debugging, and shipping code in non-primary languages (such as Python or Kotlin) when required by cross-domain technical challenges.
• Practical, hands-on experience incorporating AI coding agents and LLM-assisted workflows into daily engineering practices, along with an interest in evolving agentic software development techniques.
• Deep understanding of API-first architectures, REST APIs, event-driven designs, relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL), automated testing strategies, and modern CI/CD pipelines.
• Demonstrated experience partnering closely with mobile teams (Android/iOS) to optimize API consumption, network performance, and client-server resilience.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in fluent written and spoken English, with a proven ability to collaborate across distributed international engineering teams.

What you will do:

• Design, build, and run high-reliability backend services behind our kiosks (ordering, payments, loyalty, menus, and device-facing APIs) primarily in PHP and Symfony to ensure high availability during peak traffic.
• Own features autonomously end-to-end—from initial technical design and implementation through automated testing, rollout, and post-production monitoring—to maintain operational stability and prevent revenue loss for clients.
• Act as an individual contributor technical lead by framing design options, writing technical specifications, securing stakeholder buy-in, and executing complex integrations or migrations across cross-functional teams.
• Collaborate closely with Android engineers to design, optimize, and document APIs built to handle real-world edge cases, including flaky networks and offline-first restaurant environments.
• Read, debug, and contribute code to shared microservices and migrations in Python, collaborating across international engineering hubs in Ghent, Toronto, and beyond.
• Integrate AI coding agents (such as Claude Code and custom agent skills) into daily spec-driven development workflows to accelerate team delivery and streamline the software development pipeline.
• Protect production health by establishing observability, managing alerting, participating in incident response, and performing root-cause analysis to ensure maximum uptime for large restaurant chains.
• Elevate technical standards across the team by conducting thorough code reviews, mentoring peers, and sharing architectural knowledge without relying on formal authority.
