Mantle8 seeks a seismologist to build an in-house Full Waveform Inversion capability for passive seismic data and for seismic imaging in exploration. You will own the data-to-model workflow, develop forward and adjoint components, benchmark on synthetic models and apply to Mantle8 field datasets.

The role blends R&D with production tasks, requires a PhD and strong programming skills in Python and/or C/C++, with HPC experience and excellent communication in a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• PhD in seismology or geophysics with a thesis focused on FWI
• Recent PhD graduate, up to 5 years after PhD
• Hands-on development of FWI code and inversion workflows
• Strong background in seismology and wave propagation
• Proficient in Python and/or C/C++, Fortran or Julia; Git
• Experience with HPC / parallel computing
• Experience with ambient-noise or traveltime tomography in applied settings
• Machine learning for seismic data is a plus
• Clear communication in a multidisciplinary team

Responsabilités

• Design and implement an FWI workflow for passive seismic data
• Develop forward-modeling and adjoint-based inversion components: gradient, misfit, regularization
• Benchmark on synthetic models and apply to Mantle8 field data
• Assess and extend open-source codes with licensing considerations
• Run inversions on HPC / cloud infrastructure
• Document methods and code; write technical reports
