Roles and responsibilities

The Second Mate is third in command of the vessel and a watchkeeping officer. Their responsibilities include ensuring the safe and efficient voyage and navigation of the vessel. In some cases, the Second Officer acts as the Safety Officer, ensuring compliance of vessel operations with international regulations and company requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Receive and provide necessary written instructions from and to the other Deck Officer.
• Be familiar with vessel maneuvering and bridge equipment, including the vessel DP system, manuals, and procedures.
• Maintain the DP Plan.
• Communicate and report to the Master any deficiency, incident, or event that may impact vessel operations, including DP operations.
• Participate in emergency and DP emergency response trainings.
• Adhere to Safety and Company Procedures at all times.

Note: The above list of duties is not exhaustive, and tasks assigned on board vessels are not limited to these.
