WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The candidate will join an interdisciplinary laboratory composed of several research teams, bringing together principal investigators, postdoctoral researchers, and PhD students working collaboratively on multiple projects, exploring scientific literature and experimental methodologies.
The goal of the LAAC team (Language Acquisition Across Cultures) [see website: https://lscp.dec.ens.fr/fr/recherche/equipes-du-lscp/lacquisition-du-langage-travers-differentes-cultures ] is to uncover the mechanisms and processes involved in early language acquisition across various cultures and linguistic communities. To do this, we use an interdisciplinary approach (ranging from computational modelling to laboratory experiments and advanced data analysis), all within the framework of collaborative and publicly engaged science. We foster a supportive culture that embraces both cultural and individual diversity.
The selected candidate will benefit from a collegial and positive working environment, with a small team (fewer than 10 people) that is well integrated into a larger interdisciplinary laboratory (around 70 members). The Laboratoire de Sciences Cognitives et Psycholinguistiques (LSCP) [see website: https://lscp.dec.ens.fr/ ] is a joint research unit of the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), the École Normale Supérieure (ENS), and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). Within the LSCP, our team works in close collaboration with Cognitive Machine Learning (CoML) [see website: https://cognitive-ml.fr/ ].
MAIN MISSION
The ExELang team is seeking a dynamic Scientific Product Manager to coordinate deliverables during the final year of our ERC Consolidator Grant-funded project (10/2021–10/2026). This role combines research project management with methodologies from product management to ensure the timely delivery of high-impact scientific outcomes.
You will work closely with our interdisciplinary team – composed of data managers, machine learning engineers, researchers, and supported by a dedicated project manager – to turn our final-year research goals into concrete, measurable outputs (including scientific publications, the release of well-documented and reusable open-source code, and the dissemination of constructed datasets to relevant stakeholders).
KEY RESPONSABILITIES
ROLE SPECIFICS
This position requires a high level of autonomy, advanced research project management skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders (researchers, engineers, data managers, project managers, lab staff, etc.).
The Scientific Product Manager will play a central role in the strategic coordination of the ERC project, ensuring coherence between scientific objectives, technical deliverables (data, code, publications), and the administrative requirements of the European funding call.
The working environment is international and interdisciplinary, integrating expertise in linguistics, cognitive science, data engineering, and machine learning. The role involves implementing Agile methodologies adapted for academia and developing internal tools for tracking and documentation that promote scientific reproducibility and open science principles.
The postholder will work closely with the project’s scientific lead and project manager, participate in steering meetings, and may supervise interns or contractual staff (e.g. research engineers or assistants) involved in specific project phases.
