Mistral Ai is seeking a Research Software Engineer for the Sandboxes team. You will design and operate the platform that runs untrusted code at scale, spanning multiple Kubernetes clusters and bare metal to hyperscalers.

• Strong software engineering background in distributed systems.
• Deep expertise in Kubernetes, cross-cluster networking, observability, or virtualization.
• Fluency in Python or Rust.
• Strong software design, testing, CI/CD, and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate the sandboxing platform that runs untrusted code at scale across multiple Kubernetes clusters.
• Develop the sandbox runtime leveraging Firecracker for fast startup and efficient scheduling.
• Aim for low latency and millions of concurrent sandboxes.
• Write robust, well-tested systems code in Rust and Python; review CI/CD and observability.
• Own cross-cluster networking, security boundaries, and monitoring for suspicious activity.
• Collaborate with researchers and ML engineers to turn needs into platform features.
