Position Overview

This position is accountable for the supervision of all field activities in the construction of one or more highway improvement projects within the district.

Essential Functions

  • Ensures that assigned construction projects are built in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Provides complete and accurate project documentation to assure timely completion of final papers.
  • Provides timely response to inquiries complaints or requests regarding assigned projects.
  • Keeps supervisors informed of pertinent project information.
  • Provides technical assistance with the timely resolution of project problems.
  • Trains motivates and evaluates subordinate staff.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology pre-engineering or job related technical / science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience OR seven years of engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering and the application of engineering techniques to the design construction and maintenance of public works.
  • Knowledge of mathematics and its application to project design field surveying and engineering computational activities.
  • Ability to supervise train and motivate staff engaged in either field or office engineering functions.

  • Requires statewide travel with occasional overnight stays
  • Requires the ability to work overtime.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.

The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420 / 4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
