Job Description:

ABOUT US

Akur8 is a young, dynamic, fast growing Insurtech startup that is transforming insurance pricing and reserving with transparent machine learning.

Our SaaS platform leverages the power of transparent machine learning and predictive analytics to inject game-changing speed, performance and reliability into insurers’ pricing and reserving processes.

Powered by skilled R&D, Product & Actuarial teams we’ve developed unique AI algorithms that automate the insurance pricing and reserving in an unprecedented way.

This results in a pricing solution which not only allows insurance companies to model their risks 10 times faster, with a higher predictive power than traditional methods, but which also incorporates next generation reserving functionalities, helping to predict and legislate for future claims, therefore constituting a major game changer for the insurance industry.

Akur8 has already been selected:

  • In CB Insights Top 50 World Insurtech Companies 2023
  • As 3rd best overall (worldwide) in the CodinGame 2022 Software Engineering Fall Challenge

With 39 nationalities within our team, and offices in Paris, London, New York, Tokyo, Milan, Cologne, Atlanta and Montréal, Akur8's solution is international by design.

Servicing more than 320+ clients across 4 continents and targeting all non-life insurance carriers, we focus on more mature markets for faster expansion.

ROLE

Akur8 is one of the P&C insurance industry's leading insurtech companies, as well as being one of the foremost developers of innovative cloud-based and machine learning solutions for both actuaries and other sophisticated analysts.

This client-facing role is responsible for providing expert support and driving process modernization for clients using our proprietary insurance reserving software, Arius.

The Reserving Actuary acts as a subject matter expert to the industry, to our clients, and to our internal software development and sales & marketing teams, especially regarding using our solutions and other related tools as leverage to modernize the P&C insurance reserving process.

In addition to effective interaction with senior- and C-level executives at major insurers, this role will also develop – both individually and collaboratively – webinar presentations, white papers, and similar reserving-related thought leadership.

Key responsibilities of this role will include the following:

  • Client relationship management: Building strong relationships with clients and partners, gaining a deep understanding of their business objectives and offering strategic guidance using our reserving solutions.
  • Client advocacy: Working with our larger and strategic clients to assure their involvement and input into our new solution development, and helping guide the priorities for our future development efforts. Serving as an advocate for the client within our company, gathering and sharing feedback with the sales and product teams to support ongoing improvement.
  • Client satisfaction: Proactively identifying and addressing potential issues or concerns clients may have using our solutions, therefore reducing the risk of product churn. Leveraging strong relationships with clients to monitor satisfaction levels, and providing timely solutions to ensure continued value and long-term retention.
  • Solution mastery: Demonstrating a solid understanding of accepted insurance finance and actuarial calculations alongside bespoke reserving analysis concepts. Mastering common outputs and reporting needs of a reserve analysis.
  • Assist with sales presentation: Being comfortable presenting our solutions to executive and C-level buyers at major insurers around the world, effectively communicating the value our solutions provide, addressing the client's questions and needs, and demonstrating how our tools can drive client business success.
  • Training and support for solution partners: Developing and maintaining strong relationships with our delivery partners (key consulting and technology firms) to assist them in the delivery of training and support to our mutual clients.

PROFILE

The successful applicant must meet each of the following criteria in order to be considered for this position (elements in bold are things, without which, we will be unable to consider your application):

  • Experience using a reserving software (i.e. Arius, ResQ etc.)
  • Experience using / building actuarial solutions, with a strong understanding of the insurance reserving processes
  • Experience using and/or implementing stochastic modeling and/or machine learning in reserve analysis.
  • Experience presenting to and/or working with C-level management
  • Experience writing and speaking on actuarial subjects to professionals in the industry
  • Excellent written and spoken English language skills, and the ability to clearly relay technical information to non-technical audiences
  • A willingness to travel both domestically and internationally

BONUS CRITERIA

  • IFoA, DAV, IAE, ISOA, IdA etc. designation, or equivalent experience in actuarial science
  • Intermediate to advanced experience reading and writing Visual Basic or VBA, or proficiency with Python or R
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships, and to provide strategic guidance to sophisticated insurers
  • Experience managing projects, including working with various levels of management, IT, and analyst roles
