Résumé du poste

Aerospacelab in Toulouse seeks a RAMS Engineer to ensure satellites and constellation meet dependability and safety objectives across the full lifecycle—from preliminary design to launch and in-orbit operations.

You will translate mission requirements into reliability budgets, drive analyses like FMEA, FMECA, FTA, and contribute to RAMS deliverables for reviews with customers and partners. English required, French a plus, and collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams is essential.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in Aerospace, Electrical, Electronic, Systems, or Reliability Engineering.
  • 3+ years of RAMS / dependability / safety engineering experience, ideally in space or high-reliability industry.
  • Solid command of RAMS methods: FMEA/FMECA, FTA, RBD, reliability prediction, hazard/safety analysis.
  • Working knowledge of ECSS-Q-ST-30, -40, -60, MIL-HDBK-217 and/or FIDES.
  • Ability to read system architectures, interfaces, and requirements with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong analytical rigour, clear technical writing, and autonomous delivery.
  • Fluent English; additional languages a plus.

Responsabilités

  • Define, allocate and track reliability, availability and safety budgets at system, subsystem, and equipment level.
  • Plan and conduct FMEA / FMECA analyses (functional and hardware) and maintain CIL.
  • Perform and review reliability predictions and consolidate RBDs and FTAs.
  • Assess constellation-level availability and feed results into design and operations.
  • Evaluate FDIR and autonomy concepts against failure modes.
  • Lead hazard and safety analyses per ECSS-Q-ST-40.
  • Maintain WCA, derating and part-stress verification with electronics/EEE teams.
  • Produce RAMS deliverables and data packages for reviews.
  • Support anomaly investigations and lessons-learned feedback.
  • Interface with customers, partners and subcontractors on dependability requirements.

Description du poste

About Aerospacelab

Our mission is supported by an ambitious vertically integrated approach: design & manufacture of small satellites combined with development of earth observation services.

Since its creation in 2018, the company has already grown substantially. Our team gathers more than 25 engineering expertise, from hardware design to software development & data science.

In 2026, Aerospacelab counts offices in Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium), Toulouse (France), Lausanne (Switzerland) and US West Coast with more than 350 full-time employees, with the ambition to position itself as the European leader in small satellites.

Your mission

As a RAMS Engineer, you ensure that our satellites and constellation meet their dependability and safety objectives across the full lifecycle — from preliminary design through AIT, launch, and in-orbit operations. You translate mission and customer requirements into reliability and safety budgets, drive the supporting analyses (FMECA, FTA, reliability predictions, FDIR adequacy), and act as the technical authority on dependability across the satellite bus, payload, and ground/operations interfaces. You work hand-in-hand with systems, AOCS, EPS, avionics, software, and Product Assurance teams, and represent the RAMS discipline at programme milestones and customer reviews.

Key responsibilities
  • Define, allocate, and track reliability, availability, and safety budgets at system, subsystem, and equipment level, including apportionment to suppliers.
  • Plan and conduct FMEA / FMECA analyses (functional and hardware), identify single points of failure, and maintain the Critical Items List (CIL) and associated mitigation/retention rationale.
  • Perform and review reliability predictions (parts-count and parts-stress) using ECSS-Q-ST-30 series, MIL-HDBK-217 or FIDES, and consolidate Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD) and Fault Tree Analyses (FTA).
  • Assess constellation-level availability (mean number of operational satellites, service continuity, replenishment strategy) and feed results back into the system and operations design.
  • Evaluate the adequacy of FDIR (Failure Detection, Isolation and Recovery) and autonomy concepts against identified failure modes.
  • Lead hazard and safety analyses (hazard analysis, safety risk assessment) per ECSS-Q-ST-40, including launch-site, propulsion, pressurised-system, and ground-operations safety as applicable.
  • Maintain Worst-Case Analyses (WCA), derating, and part-stress verification in coordination with electronics and EEE parts engineering.
  • Produce and maintain Limited Life Items / consumables tracking and reliability inputs to lifetime and end-of-life analyses.
  • Generate RAMS deliverables and data packages (RAMS plan, analyses, status reports, RIDs responses) and present them at SRR/PDR/CDR/QR and customer reviews.
  • Support anomaly and non-conformance investigations, root-cause analysis, and lessons-learned feedback into the design.
  • Interface with customers, partners, and subcontractors on dependability requirements, compliance matrices, and review actions.
Must have
  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in Aerospace, Electrical, Electronic, Systems, or Reliability Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in RAMS / dependability / safety engineering, ideally in space, aeronautics, defence, or another high-reliability industry.
  • Solid command of core RAMS methods: FMEA/FMECA, FTA, RBD, reliability prediction, hazard/safety analysis.
  • Working knowledge of applicable standards — ECSS-Q-ST-30 (dependability), -40 (safety), -60 (EEE parts), MIL-HDBK-217 and/or FIDES.
  • Ability to read and interpret system architectures, schematics, and requirements, and to interface effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong analytical rigour, clear technical writing, and the autonomy to drive analyses to closure.
  • Fluent English ; additional languages are a plus.
Nice to have
  • Direct experience with satellite or constellation programmes (LEO/MEO/GEO), including in-orbit dependability and availability modelling.
  • Familiarity with New Space practices — pragmatic, COTS-aware reliability approaches balancing cost, schedule, and risk.
  • Experience supporting programmes through PDR/CDR and customer/agency reviews (ESA, EC, prime contractors).
  • Exposure to FDIR design, autonomy concepts, and operations interfaces.
  • Proficiency with RAMS / dependability tooling and data-analysis environments (e.g. reliability software, Python, Excel-based modelling).
  • Awareness of software dependability and criticality assessment (ECSS-Q-ST-80 context).
