R&D Internship: Modelling Quench Sensitivity in Al Alloys

Constellium is seeking an Internship in R&D to explore quench sensitivity in aluminium alloys at the C-TEC Lab in Grenoble (Voreppe). You will contribute to deriving time-temperature-property curves and study the influence of deformation during cooling on alloy performance relevant to transport applications.

The role includes literature review, alloy testing (2xxx/6xxx/7xxx), hardness and conductivity measurements, data compilation, and the development of QFA with collaboration on Calphad models

Qualifications

• Mastery of metallurgical concepts relevant to aluminium alloys.
• Ability to perform literature review and modeling related to quench sensitivity.
• Understanding of solubility, precipitation and quench effects.

Responsabilités

• Perform bibliographic research to understand quench sensitivity factors.
• Assist in preparing and testing Al alloys (2xxx/6xxx/7xxx) for baseline and deformation-modified quench sensitivities.
• Conduct mechanical polishing, hardness tests and conductivity measurements.
• Develop and implement Quench Factor Analysis (QFA) to estimate final properties.
• Utilize Calphad models to validate experiments and refine models.
• Propose new compositions and processes for lab-scale validation.
