The Senior Project Operations Engineer (SPOE) is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of complex offshore operations related to installation vessels and their associated support fleet. Working closely with the Project Operations Manager, the SPOE ensures the successful delivery of offshore activities from vessel readiness and mobilization through offshore execution and demobilization.
The role requires strong technical expertise, operational leadership, and the ability to manage interfaces across multiple disciplines, including Operations, Engineering, Marine, Logistics, Supply Chain, HSE, subcontractors, and client representatives. The SPOE is expected to work with a high degree of autonomy while ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Vessel Readiness & Assurance
- Lead and coordinate readiness activities for assigned vessels and support assets.
- Ensure compliance with company standards, client requirements, and applicable local regulations.
- Coordinate audits, surveys, inspections, and certification activities.
- Verify the availability and functionality of communication systems onboard chartered vessels.
- Define vessel manning requirements and coordinate personnel mobilization with relevant stakeholders.
- Establish Personnel on Board (POB) requirements for operational and subcontractor teams.
- Manage chartered vessel readiness, including HSE requirements, emergency response plans, mobilization and demobilization activities.
- Develop and implement operational procedures required for project execution.
Planning, Coordination & Cost Management
- Ensure the availability of vessels and supporting resources required for offshore operations.
- Coordinate external vessel bookings and third-party service providers.
- Participate in operational reviews, planning meetings, and readiness assessments.
- Monitor operational schedules, budgets, and service costs.
- Support efficient coordination between all project stakeholders and operational functions.
Marine Logistics & Operational Support
- Develop and implement marine logistics strategies supporting offshore operations.
- Coordinate the movement of project equipment, materials, and personnel.
- Ensure compliance with local customs, immigration, import/export, and maritime requirements.
- Support crew change activities and vessel clearances.
- Monitor and optimize logistics performance to maintain offshore productivity.
- Lead the readiness and mobilization process for assigned vessels and support spreads.
- Coordinate shipyard activities, load-out operations, and delivery schedules.
- Organize the timely mobilization of project personnel and subcontractors.
- Ensure emergency response resources and offshore support services are in place.
- Review safety performance and support the implementation of corrective actions where required.
Offshore Operations
- Manage day-to-day operational support for offshore activities.
- Coordinate offshore logistics, vessel support, and provisioning requirements.
- Participate in operational meetings and progress reviews.
- Support stakeholder communication regarding assigned operational scopes.
- Assist in the planning and coordination of simultaneous operations (SIMOPS).
- Maintain operational records and provide documentation supporting commercial and contractual requirements.
- Coordinate the safe and timely demobilization of project equipment and resources.
- Ensure the return, inspection, and recertification of offshore equipment where applicable.
- Support operational close-out activities and final project reporting.
- Participate in operational reviews and lessons learned workshops.
- Contribute to project close-out and debrief reports.
- Promote best practices and process improvements across projects.
- Mentor and support the development of junior operational personnel.
Education
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Offshore Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Equivalent relevant operational experience may be considered.
Experience
- Minimum 6 years of experience within the offshore, marine, energy, or subsea construction industry.
- Strong experience in offshore operations and vessel-based project execution.
- Proven background in marine logistics, vessel mobilization, and support fleet management.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and external contractors.
- Previous involvement in offshore installation activities is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
