Voltalia UK is hiring a Project Engineer
Join a fast-growing team at the forefront of renewable energy development. We’re looking for a Project Engineer who’s passionate about renewable energy and ready to take on the technical challenges of delivering utility-scale projects across the UK.

The Project Engineer will manage site design and technical engineering across all project phases for wind and solar projects. Required knowledge includes: energy yield potential studies, civil, electrical or mechanical engineering, transport and installation of materials.

They will act as the technical referent for the UK EPC Team, working to ensure cost, delay, quality, and safety standards are met throughout project stages:

  • Project feasibility study
  • Design and optimization of structures
  • Monitoring and preparation of the pre-construction phase
  • Preparing the best technical solutions based on energy generation and cost
  • Monitoring detailed engineering, reviewing, and securing technical transmittals during construction

They will assist the Development Team in coordinating technical teams (external and internal):

  • Negotiating bonds through acceptance certificates and punch list creation/closing (PAC, IAC, FAC)
  • Supporting subcontractors with technical queries, reviewing test procedures, and safe systems of work
Position responsibilities (2/2)
  • Providing design reviews, ensuring electrical compliance to produce maintainable sites and avoid errors in construction
    Providing risk evaluations for HSE and Quality departments
  • Advising on material selection, providing cost/risk analysis for long-term, quality builds
  • Participating in subcontractor selection, PQQ, and audits to support the EPC team
  • Supporting the EPC team with plans, drawings, and layouts; acting as the key project contact; collaborating with CoE or third-party engineers
  • Improving ITPs to include key information and prevent manufacturer issues
  • Assessing component installation to prevent costly errors; standardizing practices across projects
  • Recommending and implementing standards to ensure consistent installation quality across the UK portfolio
  • Engaging with grid connection network operators to discuss technical solutions
  • Providing technical support during construction and O&M handover phases
  • Supporting documentation transfer during project closure
  • Contributing to lessons learned and future technical improvements
  • Participating in the EPC/CoE expert network to ensure corporate standards are followed, while fostering innovation

Requirements

The ideal candidate will be/have:

  • An engineering degree (civil, mechanical, electrical) or equivalent vocational qualifications in electrical engineering
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Project Manager or Technical Advisor in renewable energy, with project costing knowledge
  • Knowledge of data analysis tools and GIS (valued)
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills
  • Experience advising clients on solar project technical aspects; inspection and testing experience
  • Experience in renewables (photovoltaic is essential; battery or wind is desirable)
  • Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD, and electrical engineering software
  • English as the working language; French/Portuguese skills are a plus
