Overview

Program Manager For Center For Technology, Science, And Energy

The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) seeks a full-time, in-person program manager for its Center for Technology, Science, and Energy (CTSE). The anticipated start date for this position is as soon as possible. CTSE was founded in 2024 and cultivates intellectual and moral resources for our nation's leaders to think and act prudently in the face of an array of issues and opportunities posed by science and technology.

The program manager will work closely with CTSE Director and Senior Fellow M. Anthony Mills to coordinate the center's operations. The manager will design and execute major center initiatives, including working groups, paper series, and web products. Moreover, this employee, in conjunction with CTSE's director, will be responsible for coordinating best practices among the center's research assistants and scholars.

Interested candidates should submit a resume, a cover letter demonstrating their interest in AEI's mission generally and CTSE's mission particularly, an academic transcript, and a 500-word writing sample on any topic.

Responsibilities
  • Support the workflows of three research assistants and 17 scholars researching science, energy, and technology policy.
  • Collaborate with the CTSE director to devise, develop, and execute new center initiatives. Coordinate with other departments and teams at AEI as needed, including the Development and Government Relations departments and the communications team.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage public events in conjunction with CTSE's director. Support active working groups led by the team's fellows.
  • Maintain the center's paper series by recruiting authors, editing drafts, and coordinating timelines with communications teams.
  • Provide research and editorial support to CTSE scholars for blogs, research papers, opinion articles, and congressional testimonies, and manage related products (including website content and promotional materials). Assist in various ad hoc activities, including editing, drafting proposals, interviewing staff, and developing projects.
  • Develop and manage CTSE's monthly newsletter, the Nexus. Coordinate the editing, scheduling, and posting of daily articles on the technology channel of the AEIdeas blog and their promotion through AEI's daily Tech Policy Outlook newsletter.
  • Report weekly to the center's director on internal and external publications, events, Hill engagements, and other activities at meetings, through memos, and in phone calls.
  • Coordinate CTSE policy inputs for daily AEI publications and website features.
  • Support staffing for the science, energy, and technology research assistant positions.
  • Track and measure CTSE scholars' outputs and impact. Maintain the CTSE.aei.org webpage and CTSE's X account.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

The employee is regularly expected to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard. This job requires close-up vision for computer work. The employee must be able to lift up to 30 pounds. The employee must be able to work in a confined area. Moderate noise (e.g., from computers, phones, printers, and light traffic) is expected. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential responsibilities associated with this position.

Qualifications
  • 25 years of experience in research, management, or politics
  • A bachelor's degree (required)
  • A general knowledge of Washington, DC; the institutions that shape science, technology, and energy policy; and the policymaking process (required)
  • A demonstrated interest in civil society and prior experience researching technology, science, or energy policy (required)
  • The ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships within and among departments
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, attention to detail, and organizational skills
  • Time management skills and a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Creativity
  • Strong initiative
Benefits and Compensation

AEI offers generous benefits, including 18 days of paid leave (15 days of paid annual leave and 3 personal/floating holidays); 12 days of paid sick leave; paid family leave; medical and dental coverage, in addition to a health savings account; medical and dependent care FSA; a tuition assistance program of up to $5,200; life and insurance at no cost to employees; and a 403b retirement plan with a 12% contribution from AEI, among other benefits. The salary range for this full-time, exempt position is $60,000 - $65,000. Salary is just one component of AEI's total compensation package for employees.
