EMBL Grenoble seeks a CAD Engineer to join the Instrumentation Team, developing high-precision scientific instruments for MX, SAXS and Cryo-EM/ET. You will design mechanical and electrical aspects, manufacture and assemble components, and develop control software in collaboration with ESRF partners.

The role involves vacuum and cryogenic environments, documentation, and close teamwork with engineers, scientists and external partners across multiple campuses.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, CAD Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline.
  • Strong experience with CAD software, ideally SolidWorks, including simulation and analysis tools.
  • Experience designing systems for vacuum and cryogenic environments.
  • Experience in precision mechanical design.
  • Basic knowledge of physics, electronics, and optics.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing methods, tolerancing, and assembly processes.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with ability to present and justify technical solutions.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills; good communication in English and working knowledge of French.
  • Experience in prototype development and assembly; experience in international research environments; familiarity with scientific instrumentation or robotics.

Responsabilités

  • Computer-aided design of new robotic and mechatronic systems operating in highly constrained environments, including cryogenic and vacuum conditions.
  • Mechanical design and optimisation of precision components and assemblies.
  • Follow-up of manufacturing activities through the in-house workshop and external suppliers.
  • Mechanical assembly, integration, and commissioning of new instruments.
  • Preparation and maintenance of technical documentation and manufacturing drawings.
  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, technicians, and external partners throughout the development process.
  • Meet project deadlines while delivering industrial-quality designs and documentation.
