EMBL Grenoble is seeking a CAD Engineer to join our Instrumentation Team, contributing to the design and maintenance of high-precision instruments used in MX, SAXS and Cryo-EM projects.

You will collaborate with scientists, engineers and technicians, work under the team leader, and occasionally visit EMBL Hamburg and Heidelberg; meeting deadlines while delivering robust, manufacturable designs in an international research environment.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, CAD Engineering or Mechatronics.
  • Strong experience with CAD software, ideally SolidWorks, including simulation and analysis tools.
  • Experience designing systems for vacuum and cryogenic environments.
  • Experience in precision mechanical design.
  • Basic knowledge of physics, electronics, and optics.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing methods, tolerancing, and assembly processes.

Responsabilités

  • CAD of new robotic and mechatronic systems in highly constrained environments, including cryogenic and vacuum conditions.
  • Mechanical design and optimisation of precision components and assemblies.
  • Follow-up of manufacturing activities, both through the in‑house workshop and external suppliers.
  • Mechanical assembly, integration, and commissioning of new instruments.
  • Preparation and maintenance of technical documentation and manufacturing drawings.
  • Close collaboration with engineers, scientists, technicians, and external partners throughout the development process.
  • Meeting project deadlines while delivering industrial‑quality designs and documentation will be a key aspect of the role.
