CNRS in Bordeaux hosts a postdoctoral researcher within the QUANTA ERC Synergy project. The role focuses on analyzing Paleolithic objects, marks, and their possible functions, using technological, morphometric, and ethnographic comparisons. The work is centered at PACEA in a vibrant, international team.

You will engage with imaging facilities and collaborate across the QUANTA network to advance models of notation and cognitive evolution in a cross-cultural context.

Qualifications

• PhD in prehistoric archaeology or closely related field.
• Experience in technological or functional study of archaeological objects is required.
• Ability to design analytical protocols and test functional hypotheses.
• Experience with quantitative morphology or surface data analysis.
• Fluent written and spoken English in scientific contexts.
• Ability to conduct independent research within an international team.

Responsabilités

• Build and document targeted corpus of Paleolithic objects bearing marks.
• Conduct technological and morphometric analyses of objects.
• Design and perform experiments to recreate mark-making techniques.
• Develop quantitative protocols for mark morphology and spatial organization.
• Acquire, manage, and analyze imaging data (macrophotography, multifocus, SEM–EDS).
• Collaborate with QUANTA peers to compare archaeological with ethnographic data.
• Contribute to cross-cultural studies and comparative databases.
• Present results at meetings and conferences.
• Prepare articles for international peer‑reviewed journals.
