As part of the ANR APEX-Stent project, the postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the study of interactions between cardiovascular stents and human or animal vascular tissues. The objective is to deepen the understanding of the mechanisms responsible for post-implantation complications by analyzing arterial samples implanted with various types of stents, including clinical stents (CoCr, PtCr, stainless steel, BMS, DES), bioresorbable prototypes, and titanium (Ti) and zirconium (Zr) alloys.

The recruited researcher will be responsible for:
Investigating the physical chemistry of metallic implants with various chemical compositions and functionalized surfaces in an arterial environment, as a function of time and patient/animal conditions.
Organizing, inventorying, and annotating a collection of over 200 implanted arterial blocks, ensuring their preservation and traceability.
Preparing biological samples (cutting, polishing, coating) for scanning electron microscopy (SEM/EDX) imaging.
Performing and optimizing SEM, EDX, and TEM analyses on arterial blocks.
Coordinating sample exchanges and analytical collaborations (Raman imaging, histology) with partner laboratories.
Contributing to the structuring and ongoing development of a collaborative stent database, in coordination with a development team at MIT.
The position is offered as part of the ANR APEX-Stent project, an interdisciplinary initiative led by the Institut de Recherche de Chimie Paris (IRCP, UMR 8247), within Chimie ParisTech – PSL University, located in Paris. The project aims to deepen the understanding of interactions between cardiovascular stents and biological tissues through the analysis of implanted human and animal samples.
The postdoctoral researcher will join a dynamic team working at the intersection of biomedical materials, electron microscopy, and vascular biology. The work environment includes close collaborations with several partner laboratories (both national and international), including research institutes specializing in materials engineering, histology, and advanced imaging, as well as a strategic partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for the development of a collaborative database.
The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, particularly in electron microscopy (SEM, TEM, EDX), and offers a stimulating setting conducive to the development of high-level technical and scientific expertise.
Essential Qualifications:
PhD in materials science, biomaterials, bioengineering, or a related field.
Hands-on experience with electron microscopy techniques (SEM, EDX, TEM).
Experience in preparing biological or hybrid samples for microscopy.
Ability to manage large sample collections and structure associated metadata.
Strong organizational skills and team spirit, with the ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary and international environment.
Proficiency in written and spoken English for scientific communication.
Desirable Skills:
Knowledge of materials for implantable devices (stents, metallic alloys, bioresorbable polymers).
Previous experience with collaborative databases or sample tracking systems.
Basic knowledge of web development or data processing tools (e.g., HTML, Python, R) is a plus.
