BRGM is seeking a Post-doctoral researcher to develop the LDB bioreactor from laboratory to pilot scale within the INSOKA Horizon Europe project. The role focuses on bioleaching of sulfides, adaptation of microbial consortia, and running experiments in laboratory and pilot-scale facilities in France and abroad (Zambia).

The candidate will contribute to WP3 and WP7, draft deliverables, and publish results, with emphasis on experimental design, hydrodynamics, and mass transfer.

Qualifications

• PhD in process (bio)engineering, chemical engineering, biohydrometallurgy or related field.
• Experience in operating bioreactors and monitoring processes.
• Experience in scaling up to a continuous pilot (100 L).
• Proficiency in English (read, written, spoken).
• French language is a plus.

Responsabilités

• T3.1 Bioleaching tests in a laboratory-scale reactor: conduct tests, study kinetics and yields, parameter input for pilot sizing.
• T3.2 Development and optimization of the floating agitator: experimental hydrodynamic tests on 1.8 m³ pilot and materials optimization.
• T3.3 Scale-up of bioleaching and inoculum preparation (100 L pilot): experimental implementation and inoculum management.
• T7.3 Hydrodynamic characterization and mass transfer of the on-site LDB pilot plant: measure solids dispersion and gas-liquid transfer coefficients.
• Cross-cutting tasks: draft deliverables, project reports and high-impact publications.
