Job Description:

This post-doctoral position is supported by the project and will be based in the MAGNET team in Lille, collaborating with European project partners.

While AI techniques are advancing rapidly, concerns about risks and abuses have led to increased research in areas such as privacy-preserving machine learning, explainability, fairness, and data protection legislation.

Privacy-preserving machine learning focuses on developing models from data without revealing the data itself. Concepts like (local) differential privacy help limit information disclosure.

The MAGNET team is involved in the TRUMPET, FLUTE, and REDEEM projects, aiming to develop algorithms for secure, privacy-preserving federated learning, even with potentially malicious participants. TRUMPET and FLUTE focus on oncology applications, while REDEEM has a broader scope.

The position's start and end dates are negotiable but should begin no earlier than 1/5/2024 and conclude by 30/04/2026, with individual contracts lasting up to 2 years.

The post-doc will work closely with colleagues in the MAGNET team and project consortia, contributing to open-source libraries if prototypes are developed. They will bring new expertise and foster collaboration within the team and project consortium, supporting research objectives and prototyping efforts.

Research topics may include, but are not limited to:

  • Cryptography-based strategies for enhancing security in privacy-preserving AI systems
  • Inference methods for privacy assessment and statistical privacy theory
  • Programming language strategies relevant to compilers and interpreters
  • Design and development of the TRUMPET/FLUTE platform and algorithms
  • Research contributions to the projects
  • Collaboration with team members and engineers for prototyping and validation
  • Dissemination of research results

Desired skills include:

  • Strong research background in privacy, cryptography, statistics, distributed systems, or related areas
  • Good communication and reporting skills, with an interest in collaborative work
  • Proficiency in English

Benefits

  • Partial reimbursement of public transport costs
  • 7 weeks of annual leave plus 10 RTT days, with options for exceptional leave
  • Flexible working arrangements, including teleworking
  • Access to professional equipment and resources
  • Participation in social, cultural, and sports activities
  • Vocational training opportunities
  • Social security coverage

Gross monthly salary (before taxes): 2,788 €
