Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and researchers on the SAGA project, which involves creating or modifying existing cyclotron accelerator lines. Design, purchase and qualify electromagnetic systems to meet beam dynamics requirements. Study the possibility of designing a magnetic septum beam splitter and scanning magnet to optimize ion beam distribution on target.
- carry out a literature review on septum and scanning magnets, and identify the technical solutions best suited to our projects
- collaborate with specialists, notably at CERN, to validate the technical concepts developed
- carry out electromagnetic simulations to test systems, after prior training
- collaborate with the design office to analyze mechanical aspects and ensure system feasibility
- launch the manufacture of objects and participate in their qualification
The “Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds” is a national research infrastructure based on the use of ion beams. Fields of research include fundamental research in nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics, materials under irradiation and nanostructuring, molecular collisions and the interstellar medium, radiobiology and innovative techniques for dosimetry and therapy of certain cancers. GANIL (approx. 320 people) is located in Caen, Normandy. GANIL is located on the future EPOPEA science and innovation park of the urban community of Caen la Mer. As a research infrastructure, GANIL serves a national, European and international scientific community of around a thousand users.Faced with increasing demand for the use of heavy ion beam times for the space industry, GANIL, with the support of CNES, has launched the SAGA (Space Applications @ GANIL Accelerators) project. The aim is to make these beams more accessible to the industrial space community, thereby boosting the responsiveness and competitiveness of French and European companies.Co-sponsored by G.I.E GANIL and academic and industrial partners, the NORMANDIE ACCÉLÉRATEURS platform, co-financed by the Normandy Region, will ensure the operational deployment of the project.
The person recruited will be assigned to the 16-strong Physics of Accelerators group (GPA). The mission of this group is to develop and share high-level expertise on accelerators. This expertise covers the critical topics of beam dynamics, establishment of basic beam optics, beam feasibility studies, definition and analysis of radiofrequency and pulsed systems, beam-cavity interaction, mastery of spectrometers and lines for physics, and more generally accelerators (Linac, cyclotrons).
