Serial Synchrotron Crystallography is now a standard tool for structural biology at ESRF. It has applications at both room temperature and cryogenic temperatures with and without time resolution. Although significant progress has been made in experimental design, sample delivery, data collection strategies, and data analysis, challenges remain. One such challenge is the de-segregation of mixed populations of structural data. The origin of this diversity could be due to phenomena such as radiation damage, (de)hydration, and incomplete penetration of ligands or light.
This postdoctoral position will focus on applying previously developed machine learning techniques to single image serial experiments. The candidate will apply and refine these approaches on in-house data as well as data collected by external research groups at ESRF. As a postdoctoral researcher in the Structural Biology Group, responsibilities include participating in in-house research programs, contributing to beamline operation, and supporting external users as a local contact. There will also be opportunities to develop an independent research program.
