Williamson County Community Development Department seeks a full-time Planner to review planning applications, prepare staff reports, and support long-range planning initiatives. The role involves providing information and customer service to property owners, developers, and the public, while coordinating with other County departments.

Evening meetings are possible. Candidates should have a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning (or a Bachelor’s with 2 years of professional planning experience

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from an accredited college or university.
• Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university in a closely related field and two (2) years of professional experience in planning may be substituted for a Master’s degree.

Responsabilités

• Reviews and evaluates planning applications for compliance with County regulations.
• Prepares staff reports and professional recommendations for Planning Commission review.
• Provides information and customer service to property owners, developers, and the public regarding development and County regulations.
• Meets and communicates with representatives of other County departments to coordinate the review of development projects and address regulatory requirements.
• Conducts research and reviews plans through the County's electronic review system; identifies issues and communicates revisions or additional information.
• Attends and participates in staff meetings, pre-application meetings, information meetings, Planning Commission meetings, and other meetings as assigned.
• Assists with the development and preparation of long-range planning documents, including the Comprehensive Plan and Special Area Plans.
• Conducts occasional site visits to inspect and photograph development sites associated with applications under review.
• Assists the Planning Director, Community Development Director, and other County officials with planning-related projects and assignments.
• Attends meetings that may occasionally extend into evening hours.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Williamson County Community Development Department is accepting applications for a full-time Planner.

Position Summary

Reviews and evaluates planning applications, including subdivision plats and site plans, for compliance with applicable County Zoning Ordinances and Subdivision Regulations. Prepares staff reports and professional recommendations for Planning Commission review, assists with long-range planning initiatives, and provides information and customer service to property owners, developers, and the public regarding development and County regulations.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Reviews minor and major subdivision plans, site plans, and related development applications for compliance with County regulations, including zoning and subdivision requirements.
• Prepares staff reports and professional recommendations for projects requiring Planning Commission review and presents information and responds to questions during meetings.
• Responds to inquiries from property owners, developers, consultants, and the public by phone, email, and in person regarding development requirements and applicable County regulations.
• Meets and communicates with representatives of other County departments to coordinate the review of development projects and address applicable regulatory requirements.
• Conducts research and reviews plans and supporting documentation through the County's electronic review system; identifies issues and communicates necessary revisions or additional information.
• Attends and participates in staff meetings, pre-application meetings, information meetings, Planning Commission meetings, and other meetings as assigned, serving as a liaison when appropriate.
• Assists with the development and preparation of long-range planning documents, including the Comprehensive Plan and Special Area Plans.
• Conducts occasional site visits to inspect and photograph development sites associated with applications under review.
• Assists the Planning Director, Community Development Director, and other County officials with planning-related projects and assignments.
• Attends meetings that may occasionally extend into evening hours.

Education And Experience

• A Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from an accredited college or university.
• A Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university in a closely related field and two (2) years of professional experience in planning may be substituted for a Master’s degree.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid Tennessee Driver's License with proof of insurability.

Membership in the American Planning Association (APA) preferred.

AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) certification preferred but not required.
