Williamson County Solid Waste Department is accepting applications for a full-time Heavy Equipment Operator.

Position Summary

The Heavy Equipment Operator operates a variety of heavy equipment used in the daily operations of the Solid Waste Department. This position is responsible for safely and efficiently operating equipment at solid waste facilities, maintaining work areas, moving and compacting materials, and assisting with the overall operation and maintenance of the facility.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment such as bulldozers, loaders, excavators, compactors, skid steers, and other related equipment.
• Moves, spreads, grades, loads, and compacts solid waste, soil, gravel, and other materials.
• Performs daily equipment inspections and reports mechanical problems or safety concerns.
• Operates equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with department policies and applicable safety regulations.
• Assists with maintaining landfill, transfer station, and other Solid Waste facilities.
• Performs grading, excavation, trenching, and other site-preparation activities as assigned.
• Loads and unloads materials and assists with the movement and placement of waste and other materials.
• Performs routine cleaning, greasing, and minor maintenance of assigned equipment.
• Maintains work areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
• Assists with traffic control, direct vehicles and equipment as needed.
• May assist with litter collection, grounds maintenance, and general facility upkeep.
• Completes required daily equipment logs, inspection reports, and other documentation.
• Follows all applicable safety procedures and uses required personal protective equipment.
• Responds appropriately to changing work conditions, weather conditions, and operational needs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Knowledge of the safe operation of heavy construction and/or landfill equipment.
• Knowledge of basic equipment maintenance and inspection procedures.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and accurately in confined and active work areas.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to recognize equipment malfunctions and safety hazards.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to perform physical labor in a variety of weather conditions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous experience operating heavy equipment is preferred.
