Stimstudio is seeking a seasoned Technical Director to drive tool development within Houdini and help evolve the studio pipeline using Gaffer. The role involves building robust workflows, debugging complex tools, and ensuring smooth data integration across production teams.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in VFX/CFX pipelines, strong Python/VEX, and a solid grasp of rendering, data formats, and artist workflows. This is a hands-on, autonomous position in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Technical Director (TD) in visual effects (VFX) and CFX pipeline.
• Strong Python and VEX skills.
• Excellent technical problem-solving skills and troubleshooting of complex workflows.
• Strong understanding of production processes and artist workflows in film and animation.
• Good understanding of rendering concepts (Raytracing, Shaders, Tech AOVs).
• Good command of 3D data formats (VDB, ABC / Alembic, USD).
• Ability to work autonomously, rigorously, and in a structured manner.

ABOUT THE JOB

As part of the Stim team, you will play a key role in our production pipeline. Leveraging your expertise in Houdini, you will develop tools and workflows, provide technical support, and actively contribute to the development of our pipeline on Gaffer software (https://www.gafferhq.org).

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop tools, scripts, and workflows in Houdini to support production and artistic teams.
• Actively participate in the development, integration, and evolution of the pipeline using Gaffer software.
• Provide daily technical support, problem-solving, and effective debugging (troubleshooting) on existing and new tools.
• Design and maintain complex tool architectures while facilitating the flow and integration of 3D data.

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Technical Director (TD) in visual effects (VFX) and CFX pipeline.
• Strong Python and VEX skills.

• Experience integrating tools into existing pipelines or new architectures.
• Solid knowledge of Houdini scripting (HOM, HScript, HDA).
• Mastery of 3D mathematics (linear algebra, matrices, quaternions, projections).
• Experience with C++.
• Good understanding of Gaffer / Katana / Solaris.
• Good understanding of Maya.
