Stim Studio is seeking a skilled Technical Director to join our on-site Lyon team. You will develop Houdini tools and workflows, support production pipelines, and contribute to Gaffer-based integration in our studio pipeline.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years as a TD in VFX/CFX, strong Python/VEX, and solid understanding of rendering and data formats. French and English are a plus. On-site positions in Lyon and other French locations are available.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Technical Director (TD) in visual effects (VFX) and CFX pipeline.
• Strong Python and VEX skills.
• Excellent technical problem-solving and troubleshooting of complex workflows.
• Solid understanding of production processes and artist workflows in film/animation.
• Good understanding of rendering concepts (Raytracing, Shaders, AOVs).
• Experience with 3D data formats (VDB, ABC/Alembic, USD).
• Ability to work autonomously, rigorously, and in a structured manner.

Responsabilités

• Provide daily technical support, debugging, and troubleshooting of tools.

ABOUT THE JOB

As part of the Stim team, you will play a key role in our production pipeline. Leveraging your expertise in Houdini, you will develop tools and workflows, provide technical support, and actively contribute to the development of our pipeline on Gaffer software (https://www.gafferhq.org).

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop tools, scripts, and workflows in Houdini to support production and artistic teams.
• Actively participate in the development, integration, and evolution of the pipeline using Gaffer software.
• Provide daily technical support, problem-solving, and effective debugging (troubleshooting) on existing and new tools.
• Design and maintain complex tool architectures while facilitating the flow and integration of 3D data.

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Technical Director (TD) in visual effects (VFX) and CFX pipeline.
• Strong Python and VEX skills.
• Excellent technical problem-solving skills and troubleshooting of complex workflows.
• Strong understanding of production processes and artist workflows in film and animation.
• Good understanding of rendering concepts (Raytracing, Shaders, Tech AOVs).
• Good command of 3D data formats (VDB, ABC / Alembic, USD).

NICE TO HAVE

• Good command of French and English.
• Experience integrating tools into existing pipelines or new architectures.
• Solid knowledge of Houdini scripting (HOM, HScript, HDA).
• Mastery of 3D mathematics (linear algebra, matrices, quaternions, projections).
• Experience with C++.
• Good understanding of Gaffer / Katana / Solaris.
• Good understanding of Maya.
