Offer Description

The project involves experimental research in physico-chemistry for hydrometallurgy, focusing on ion flotation as a sustainable method for recovering noble metals from thin layers on steel, silica, or aluminium substrates. The researcher will collaborate with the L2IA and LHYS teams, providing expertise in separation processes using liquid foams.

The candidate will develop and adapt techniques spanning analytical chemistry, materials chemistry, and the physical chemistry of complex fluids, to monitor the dissolution of thin metal layers in the presence of metal ions and surface-active molecules, while controlling foam stability. This includes developing a quantitative approach to study dissolution kinetics and addressing complexing species for selective metal extraction or precipitation.

The role involves bibliographic research, dissemination of results through conferences, reports, scientific articles, and patents, and participation in laboratory tasks.

Contextually, this research addresses the need for efficient recovery of strategic metals from ores and waste, emphasizing environmentally friendly processes that minimize water and reagent use, aligned with circular economy principles. The work is conducted at the Institut de Chimie Séparative de Marcoule, equipped with advanced analytical tools, in collaboration with the L2IA and LHYS teams.

Required skills include: Physical chemistry of foams, foam formulation, extractive metallurgy, solution chemistry, complexation reactions, liquid-liquid separation processes, analytical techniques (ICP AES, spectroscopy, NMR, microscopy, etc.), materials sciences, computer data processing, presentation skills, and English level B2.
