Offer Description

The position is based on the Geosciences campus in Orléans and is shared between the Institut des Sciences de la Terre d'Orléans (ISTO) and BRGM. ISTO is a joint research unit of the University of Orléans, CNRS, and BRGM. BRGM is the French national Geological Survey.

The PhD thesis is part of a partnership between ISTO and BRGM, within the MagBrines ANR project. The thesis involves theoretical developments, numerical simulations, and laboratory tests.

Applicants should have a Master's degree or equivalent with a solid background in thermodynamics of phase equilibria and chemical reactivity, including modeling and programming skills. Experimental skills are an advantage.

To apply, submit a CV, cover letter, and one or two recommendation letters.

The project aims to define the physical and chemical properties of dense magmatic fluids beneath volcanoes in the Lesser Antilles, and to develop models to understand their formation, composition, migration, and detectability. The thesis will focus on the thermodynamic properties of magmatic brines, from high-pressure, high-temperature conditions to phase separation, combining experimental data collection and thermodynamic modeling to simulate matter and heat transfer in volcanic systems.
