Job summary

Airbus Commercial is seeking a Patent Attorney (d/f/m) to lead drafting, filing and prosecution of patent applications, with emphasis on avionics and AI domains. You will manage a diverse portfolio and provide expert IP advice under EQE regulations, collaborating with engineering and programs teams across France and Germany.

The role requires EPA or equivalent, CEIPI, 5+ years in IP, and strong English negotiation skills.

Qualifications

• Fully or partially qualified European Patent Attorney (EPA).
• CEIPI qualification is required/advantageous.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in an IP department (industry or law firm).
• Experience in an industrial/Aerospace environment is highly desirable.
• Fluent English for negotiations and collaboration.
• Ability to practice autonomously under EQE regulations.

• Manage a broad patent portfolio with geographic coverage and priority alignment.

• Act as a focal point for internal functions, providing IP education and proactive advice.

We will be based either in Toulouse, France or Ottobrun, Germany.

You will join the team providing strategic legal and technical advice to protect Airbus innovations and to mitigate risk. You will manage a diverse patent portfolio with a particular focus on avionics and our expanding digital and artificial intelligence domains, aligning Airbus intellectual property assets with our global commercial and technical strategies.

Your challenges

• Lead the drafting, filing, and prosecution of patent applications.
• Conduct inventor cross-examinations and provide expert advice on patentability.
• Under the guidance of a Senior Patent Attorney, manage a broad portfolio, ensuring geographical protection and invention prioritization match the competitive landscape.
• Prepare post-grant revocation actions and support moderate-risk IP litigation and pre-dispute work.
• Under the guidance of a Senior Patent Attorney, Support the negotiation and drafting of IP-centric agreements.
• Protect the company from infringement risks by managing IP predispute matters and claims and collaborating with legal teams on specialized contractual clauses.
• Act as a focal point for internal functions (Engineering, Procurement, Programs), providing proactive, cost-effective advice and IP education.

Your boarding pass

• Fully or partially qualified European Patent Attorney (EPA).
• Qualified CEIPI.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in an IP department (industry or law firm).
• Experience in an industrial environment or the Aerospace industry is highly desirable.
• Negotiation-level fluency in English.
• Ability to practice autonomously under EQE regulations.
• You are a self-starter who anticipates problems and proposes creative solutions to complex issues.
• Capable of working efficiently under pressure and meeting strict internal and external deadlines.
• Experience in managing outside counsel and leading IP training.
• Proven ability to handle IP matters/projects and build strong relationships with internal teams.
• Handles daily portfolio decisions with sound technical judgment and escalates critical risks effectively.
• This position requires a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.
