Harmattan AI is seeking an Optical Engineer to own the optical performance of EO/IR imaging payloads in the Gimbal team. You will follow products from sizing and prototyping through validation and mass production, working with the mechanical, electronics, software, CV and industrialization teams.

The role requires a Master’s in optics and 3+ years of experience; you’ll shape future products in a demanding startup environment.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in optics or engineering with optics specialization.
• 3+ years of experience in optical engineering.
• Experience sizing electro-optical or infrared systems.
• Hands-on experience with camera calibration, MTF, and NETD.
• Experience building optical test benches from architecture to integration.
• Strong background in image processing: distortion, gamma, and correction.
• Experience with thermal cameras is a strong plus.
• Autonomous, rigorous, and able to iterate in a startup environment.

Responsabilités

• Sizing and designing EO/IR payloads balancing field of view, resolution, range, and sensor choice.
• Select lenses or sensors or lead custom optical designs against image quality targets.
• Build and maintain optical test benches for development, validation, and production.
• Measure image quality: MTF, focus, boresight, distortion, NETD.
• Develop the calibration pipeline with software and perception teams.
• Integrate optics into mechanical assemblies with tolerancing and sealing.
• Collaborate with optical suppliers and support industrialization of lenses, sensors, components.
• Run field tests to assess image quality in real operating conditions.
