European Tech Recruit in Paris partners with a global technology leader to recruit an Optical Device Researcher. The role focuses on research, design, and integration of next-generation optical components for high-capacity networks.

You will work on semiconductor lasers, photonic chips, waveguides, modulators, and simulations, contributing to development, testing, and packaging in a cutting-edge photonics environment.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent advanced research experience in photonics, optics, or related fields.
• Strong academic record or demonstrated achievements in optical/semiconductor device technologies.
• Hands-on experience in optical device research, development, fabrication, testing, or integration.
• Solid understanding of optical communication technologies and transmission systems.
• Experience with optical chip or device design and development.
• Experience with semiconductor laser development, including DMLs.
• Knowledge of external modulation technologies and high-speed optical modulators.

We are currently partnered with a leading global technology organisation with a major European research and development centre in Paris. Their Optical Communication Technology team is conducting advanced research into next-generation optical devices and technologies designed to enable higher-capacity and more efficient optical communication networks.

As part of their continued investment in photonics and semiconductor technologies, they are looking to hire an Optical Device Researcher to contribute to the research, design, development, testing, and integration of advanced optical components.

Key responsibilities

• Research, design, and develop next-generation optical devices and components for high-capacity communication systems.
• Design and develop active and passive optical chips and photonic components.
• Work on technologies including semiconductor lasers, directly modulated lasers, external modulators, optical modulators, photodetectors, waveguides, and passive photonic circuits.
• Contribute to the design, packaging, integration, and testing of optical components and devices.
• Perform modelling and simulation of optical and photonic devices to evaluate performance and optimise designs.

Key requirements

• PhD or equivalent advanced research experience in Photonics, Optics, Semiconductor Devices, Microelectronics, Optical Communications, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Strong academic research record or demonstrated technical achievements in optical or semiconductor device technologies.
• Hands-on experience in one or more areas of optical device research, development, fabrication, testing, or integration.
• Strong understanding of optical communication technologies and optical transmission systems.
• Experience with optical chip or device design and development.
• Semiconductor laser development, including Directly Modulated Lasers (DMLs).
• External modulation technologies and high-speed optical modulators.
