One PhD position sponsored by the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Doctoral Network 6G-TERRAIN is offered at EURECOM, in Sophia Antipolis, French Riviera, France.
EURECOM is a research and teaching institute located in the Sophia Antipolis Technopolis, France. EURECOM’s research activity focuses on 3 domains: Digital Security, Data Science, and Communication Systems (CSD). EURECOM has some 150 employees among which 121 are scientists (25 professors, 26 engineers, 75 PhD. students). The CSD has its focus on 5G/6G cellular systems and protocols, Telco Cloud, AI/ML-based and data-driven management and orchestration, O-RAN, and SW and HW prototyping where it has founded the OpenAirInterface Software Alliance (www.openairinterface.org ). He or she will join the dynamic team led by Prof. Adlen Ksentini on Network Softwarization in 6G.
The Doctoral Candidate will join the recently launched 6G-TERRAIN Doctoral Network which is funded by the Horizon Europe Research Program through the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action, under the title: “ 6G TERrestrial & non-teRrestrial integration through an AI-Native architecture ”.
The 6G-TERRAIN project is a collaboration of six outstanding EU academic and private sector partners that redefines network design through the "Network of Networks" vision. By integrating terrestrial and non-terrestrial systems with AI and advanced sensing, it drives innovation towards the 6G era and fosters the development of next-generation expertise.
The Doctoral Candidate hosted by EURECOM will develop an individual project on On sensing capabilities of gNB FR2 towards optimized beamforming in an end-to-end system. His/her research will adress: (i) Integrate sensing capabilities to mmWave gNB exploring different transversal technologies (Computer vision, UWB, and 5G using LMF) to reduce beam tracking overhead; (ii) Devise ML/RL to optimize the FR2 beam-forming using sensing capabilities that leverage CV; (iii) perform e2e tests in an integrated TNTN. The expected results are: (i) RNN models to recognize UEs and derive their 3D position as well as the blockage probability; (ii) DRL-based beam- forming algorithm that considers the RNN models’ output as well as radio procedure (training pilot) to derive the best beam to activate for a UE; (iii) Integrate and validate the beam-forming algorithms in an end-to-end TNTN testbed based on OAI.
The Doctoral Candidate will be offered a three-year, full-time contract as well as enrollment to a PhD program. An up-to-six months secondment is foreseen to the University of Bremen (BRE), Germany as an integral part of the contract.
In addition to developing his/her research project, the DC will:
