BWX Technologies, Inc. (BWXT) is seeking an experienced R&D Nuclear Engineer — Fuel Performance to support design and analysis of advanced fuel systems. You will leverage MOOSE/BISON to evaluate thermo-mechanical behavior and irradiation effects, integrating data with material models and physics insights.

The role requires collaboration across disciplines, strong programming skills, and the ability to produce rigorous technical documentation for licensing, fabrication, and operation decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Physics is required.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience; advanced degree may substitute.
  • Experience with multi-physics modeling, FEA, or computational materials science.
  • Experience with nuclear fuel behavior under irradiation.
  • Proficiency in scientific programming (FORTRAN, Python, C, C++).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain DOE/DOD security clearance.

Responsabilités

  • Run detailed fuel performance simulations with MOOSE/BISON.
  • Incorporate experimental data into design decisions.
  • Develop constitutive models for fuel and cladding.
  • Calibrate fuel codes using irradiation data.
  • Evaluate new fuel concepts like ATF coatings.
  • Collaborate with reactor physicists and materials scientists.
  • Prepare analyses and simulation documentation.
  • Maintain workflows and support verification/validation.
