The organization is seeking a proactive, self-motivated professional to join the Legal Department as a Legal Assistant specializing in Visas Services & Foreign Affairs.

The position is based at CIMMYT headquarters in Texcoco, Mexico.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting contract management, including drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and managing agreements with national and international entities.
  • Managing visa applications, renewals, and protocols for staff, visitors, and partners, ensuring compliance and fostering positive relations with government entities.
  • Preparing and filing visa applications, drafting legal documents, and maintaining accurate records of sensitive information.
  • Maintaining organized physical and electronic files, entering data timely, and generating reports.
  • Assisting with tax exemption and shipment documentation related to legal and diplomatic processes.
  • Supporting fleet management requests for diplomatic vehicle plates and drafting diplomatic communications.
  • Serving as a liaison with embassies, consulates, and government agencies, and preparing for meetings with foreign officials.
  • Handling administrative tasks such as travel arrangements, expense reports, and event management.
  • Monitoring vehicle maintenance, managing data, and supporting document database management.
  • Ensuring high-quality stakeholder support, task tracking, and process optimization for legal services.
  • Performing other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Political Science, International Relations, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in similar roles.
  • Strong knowledge of Mexican immigration laws, consular procedures, and diplomatic workflows.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with proficiency in English and Spanish (CEFR C2 level for English).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Zoom, Adobe Acrobat, and willingness to learn new software.
  • Ability to handle confidential information discreetly and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Competencies include proactivity, communication, problem-solving, teamwork, adaptability, and time management.
