The Neural Code and Dynamics team at the Institut de l'Audition is developing a new medical device for restoring hearing through direct brain stimulation. This embedded device implements an artificial intelligence algorithm that processes auditory information in real time. We are looking for an embedded electronics specialist to adapt the algorithm to the device's technical constraints, and to design the medical device's electronic system. This project prefigures the creation of a startup to market the medical device, in which the person hired for this position could take part.
Technical activities
- Introduction to an artificial intelligence algorithm for sound processing using convolutional networks (PyTorch programming).
- Adaptation of the algorithm for real-time implementation on embedded electronics
- Implementation and testing of an embedded sound processing prototype using, for example, programmable components (FPGA)
- Technology watch and evaluation of technological options for the design of the final medical device
- Drawing up of a technical proposal for the electronics of the medical device in liaison with potential suppliers
General activities
- Synthesis of work carried out and presentation at meetings with the project development team.
- Participation in the search for funding and fund-raising
- Interaction with suppliers of technical solutions
The position is part of the Braincoder project supported by the Institut de l'Audition and the IPEPs industrial maturation program of the Institut du Cerveau. This project is based on recent results demonstrating the feasibility and impact of a cortical implant for hearing restoration. These results have emerged from European projects supported by the European Research Council (ERC) and the European Innovation Council (EIC). The aim of the Braincoder project is to create a major industrial player in brain-machine interface technologies, with new expertise in the coding of information transmitted to the brain. The position offered will enable the successful candidate to join the company at the end of 2026. The position will be shared between the Institut de l'Audition (Brice Bathellier's team) and the Institut du Cerveau (Braincoder project premises), two leading neurobiology institutes located 15 minutes by bike from each other.
