The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a highly skilled, results-oriented Logistics Specialist, to be based in Nairobi, Kenya.

About CIP

CIP is a not-for-profit international agricultural research organization with a global mandate to conduct research on potatoes, sweet potatoes, Andean root and tuber crops, and sustainable management of natural resources. CIP’s vision is to contribute from its areas of expertise to the fulfillment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), especially those related to poverty, hunger, child and maternal mortality, and sustainable development. About the role

The selected candidate will be part of the Logistics team under the supervision of the Logistics Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to global logistics operations, following standard processes and ensuring effective service delivery.
  • Build strong working relationships with global partners and senior managers to align functional objectives.
  • Assist the Logistics unit in drafting tender documents, ITT, RFP, solicitations, bid comparison, organizing procurement meetings, and processing purchase orders and contracts.
  • Collaborate with the logistics team to identify best operational transaction handling approaches to optimize service levels, maintain supply-chain efficiency, or reduce costs.
  • Manage logistics suppliers, fostering them as virtual extensions of the organization to enhance value. Source and evaluate suppliers locally and globally through market research, networking, and supplier databases to meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
  • Design and implement improvements to global processes organization-wide to promote logistics best practices.
  • Respond to technical queries and support requests to ensure timely, accurate resolution with high client service standards.
  • Compile data and generate reports on logistics elements such as supply chain management, strategic sourcing, distribution, supplier management, and transportation to identify trends, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with CIP health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Oversee bidding processes, ensuring transparency in evaluations, bid preparations, and contract negotiations.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Procurement, or a related field.
  • Procurement Certification from KISM, CIPS, or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in international procurement.
  • Experience managing procurement with multiple donors.
  • Strong procurement and supplier management skills.
  • Excellent client service orientation and a cooperative attitude with internal and external clients.
  • Knowledge of ERP software and management of product and supplier master files.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills in English and Swahili.
