The role sits within the Technology Legal team and is based in our Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam or Dublin office.

YOUR IMPACT

The successful candidate will join a small global team of lawyers responsible for counseling the firm on all issues pertaining to data protection, data governance, cybersecurity, cyber incident response and privacy, with particular emphasis on compliance with data protection law and regulation in the European Union.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide legal advice to company affiliates in the European Union and globally on privacy, data governance, and cybersecurity issues.
  • Review cyber and data exposure incidents and determine if regulatory and/or individual notifications are required; draft and submit such notifications.
  • Advise colleagues in the Employment Law Group on employee privacy matters, including monitoring programs, data analytics, notice, and consent requirements.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, and Risk teams on consumer and client privacy matters.
  • Assist in responding to data subject rights requests (e.g., access, deletion).
  • Review and advise on Data Protection Impact Assessments.
  • Provide legal analysis on international data transfers.
  • Review and update privacy policies and procedures; draft new policies as needed.
  • Negotiate data protection and information security terms in vendor and confidentiality agreements.
  • Develop and deliver data protection training materials online, via videoconference, and in live sessions.
  • Coordinate with colleagues in the Americas and Asia to ensure consistent global privacy practices.
  • Monitor developments in privacy and information security laws, regulations, and case law.
  • Advise on privacy issues related to marketing and web advertising activities.
  • Support compliance readiness programs for new privacy laws and regulations worldwide.

SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

  • Significant experience advising on privacy and data protection in the EU and UK within multinational initiatives.
  • Experience responding to cyber and data exposure incidents.
  • Knowledge of EU data protection and cybersecurity regulations such as GDPR and DORA.
  • In-house experience at a financial institution or relevant industry background is a plus.
  • Interest or background in technology is a plus.
  • Experience drafting policies, notices, and consents.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills.
  • Effective communicator and team player; experience in data protection training.
