One of the world-wide leading turnkey cable suppliers seeks a Legal Counsel to join our legal team at Nexans and contribute to electrifying the future.

The PWR Transmission Business Group of Nexans (PWR-T) is a global leader in engineering, manufacturing, and installing land & submarine cable solutions for clients worldwide. PWR-T plays a key role in the transition to renewable energy, connecting countries and islands to the mainland and bringing green energy from offshore wind farms to the grid, with manufacturing facilities in Norway, USA, Japan, France, and Belgium.

We are looking for a business-minded and self-motivated Legal Counsel to join our PWR-T Legal & Contracts Affairs Department. You will provide legal advice and support to internal clients, assisting multidisciplinary teams involved in the prospection, development, construction, and maintenance of power cable systems for interconnectors and offshore wind projects. The workplace is in Nantes, and you will be part of a multicultural team located in France and Norway, reporting to the PWR-T Legal Director.

You will have the opportunity to work across the entire PWR-T Business Group, providing guidance with operational impact. We value initiative and ownership of tasks.

Responsibilities :

  1. Support the Sales & Tendering team by drafting, reviewing, commenting, and negotiating a wide range of contracts (letters of intent, MOU, supplier agreements, partnership agreements, EPCI, O&M) to manage risks and ensure compliance with internal policies. Draft and negotiate consortium and subcontracts.
  2. Participate in the final review of contractual and commercial documents before signing.
  3. Assist in the hand-over process to the project team for execution.
  4. Support contract management and project execution teams by providing legal advice on warranties, securities, claims, and litigations.
  5. Assist in the incorporation and establishment of project companies and affiliates.
  6. Follow disputes and litigations related to the project portfolio.
  7. Support the Purchasing Department in negotiating complex subcontracts and procurement agreements.
  8. Support R&D activities by drafting and negotiating collaboration and development agreements.
  9. Promote best practices and legal culture, advising internal clients on legal issues, risks, and approval processes. Create and update agreement templates and policies.
  10. Implement and monitor compliance policies (anti-bribery, conflicts of interest, ethics, competition, anti-trust, GDPR) in collaboration with the Group Compliance Officer.
  11. Conduct internal training on compliance and risk management.
  12. Coordinate and supervise external law firms when necessary.

Requirements / Qualifications :

  1. Postgraduate degree in business law, ideally with dual qualification and experience in Civil and Common Law, or strong knowledge of Common Law.
  2. Minimum 5 years of experience in a law firm or as in-house counsel, with knowledge of industrial, infrastructure, or renewable projects.
  3. Experience in cross-border project management and working in multicultural environments.
  4. Experience negotiating and drafting various commercial contracts, including complex turnkey EPCI projects, familiar with major construction contract forms like FIDIC, NEC, NS, NF.
  5. Sound business judgment, ability to balance legal and business priorities, and articulate risks effectively.
  6. Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities.
  7. Customer-oriented with excellent collaboration skills.
  8. Willing to undertake tasks of varying size.
  9. Pragmatic, succinct in legal advice, and strong relationship builder.
  10. Available for occasional travel.
  11. Excellent English communication skills; CVs must be in English.
