Joko is a tech company focused on helping consumers shop smarter. We enable features such as cash back, buy now and pay later, automatic coupons, price drop alerts, carbon footprint tracking, and more. We are expanding internationally with a primary focus on the US and are building an AI-powered assistant to help users find products based on price, quality, or environmental impact from a global e-commerce catalog. This position is remote-friendly.

Joko is headquartered in Paris with teams in Paris, Barcelona and New York, and remote roles available. We are a certified B Corporation committed to communities we serve and to about 4 million consumers using Joko at over 7,000 merchants daily.
What you will do
Legal Counsel will be responsible for a polyvalent, multi-skilled, and highly challenging scope of work. You will report directly to the Head of Legal.
- Partner with the Head of Legal to ensure company compliance with laws and regulations in France and other countries where Joko operates or may operate in the future.
- Proactively prevent litigation; collaborate with the Head of Legal if litigation occurs.
- Draft and review contracts for all aspects of Joko’s activity: employees, freelancers, merchant partners, suppliers, terms and conditions, etc.
- With the Head of Legal, DPO, and Product team, advance GDPR compliance, implement privacy by design, and improve processes (data treatment register, privacy policy, IT security routines).
- Oversee corporate law events including BSPCE allocations, general shareholders’ assemblies, board meetings, and cap table management.
- Work with the Head of Legal and external advisors to maintain strong IP management procedures (domain names, trademarks, competitive intelligence).
- Support the international expansion, especially in the US where Joko is already available.
Who we're looking for
- Education: Master’s degree from a Tier 1 law university with a specialization in private law. Passing the bar is a plus.
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience, ideally 5, as a lawyer, including experience in a top law firm.
- Knowledge: Experience in negotiating contracts, GDPR/personal data management, or corporate lawyering; ability to prevent and handle legal disputes.
- Languages: Fluent in French and English (written and spoken).
- Communication: Strong analytical and synthesis skills with the ability to explain complex topics clearly; strong writing abilities.
- Project Management: Able to lead projects independently and break down problems into tasks with milestones.
- Attention to detail: Strong document quality and error detection.
- Mindset: Entrepreneurial, hands-on, and comfortable with challenges.

Our hiring process
• Intro call: Quick screening with the Hiring Manager or a recruiter.
• Step 1 – Team interview (45 min): Conversation with two Joko team members (may include the Hiring Manager, team members, or colleagues from other teams).
- Step 2 – Role-specific assessments
- Non-tech roles: Take-home case study followed by a 45-minute debrief. Assessment focuses on output and thinking process relevant to the role (analysis, strategy, or process design).
- Tech roles: Live technical interviews (coding and system design). For research internships, an additional round may involve analyzing and presenting a research paper.
- Step 3 – Founders interview (45 min): Conversation with two founders.
- References: Up to five calls with former colleagues or managers.
