One of the world-wide leading turnkey cable suppliers seeks a Legal Counsel to join our legal team in Nexans and help electrify the future.

The PWR Transmission Business Group of Nexans (PWR-T) is a global player in engineering, manufacturing, and installing land & submarine cable solutions for customers worldwide. PWR-T plays a key role in the transition to renewable energy, connecting countries, islands to the mainland, and bringing offshore wind energy to the grid. It has manufacturing plants in Norway, USA, Japan, France, and Belgium.

We are looking for a business-minded and self-motivated Legal Counsel to join our PWR-T Legal & Contracts Affairs Department in Nantes. You will provide legal support to our multidisciplinary teams involved in prospection, development, construction, and maintenance of power cable systems for interconnectors and offshore wind projects. You will report to the PWR-T Legal Director and work in a multicultural environment based in France and Norway.

This role offers the opportunity to impact the entire PWR-T Business Group through guidance and legal expertise. We value initiative and ownership of tasks.

Responsibilities :

  1. Support the Sales & Tendering team by drafting, reviewing, commenting on, and negotiating various contracts (letters of intent, MOU, supplier agreements, partnership agreements, EPCI contracts, O&M agreements) to manage risks and ensure compliance with internal guidelines. Draft and negotiate consortium and subcontracts as needed.
  2. Participate in the final review of all contractual and commercial documents before signing.
  3. Assist in the hand-over process to the Project team for execution.
  4. Support Contract Management and Project Execution teams by providing legal advice on contract implementation issues such as warranties, securities, claims, and litigations.
  5. Assist in the incorporation and establishment of project companies and affiliates.
  6. Monitor disputes and litigation related to project portfolios.
  7. Support the Purchasing Department in negotiating complex subcontracts and strategic procurements.
  8. Assist the R&D activity through drafting and negotiating collaboration and development agreements.
  9. Promote best practices and legal culture, advising internal clients on legal issues, risks, agreement structures, and company policies.
  10. Create and update contract templates and policies.
  11. Implement and monitor Group Compliance policies (anti-bribery, conflicts of interest, ethics, competition, anti-trust, GDPR, etc.) in collaboration with the Group Compliance Officer.
  12. Conduct regular internal training on compliance and risk management.
  13. Coordinate and supervise external law firms when necessary.

Requirements / Qualifications :

  1. Postgraduate degree in business law, ideally with dual qualification (Civil and Common Law) or strong knowledge of Common Law.
  2. Minimum 5 years of experience in a law firm or as in-house counsel, with knowledge of industrial, infrastructure, or renewable projects.
  3. Experience in cross-border project management and working in multicultural environments is desirable.
  4. Experience negotiating and drafting a variety of commercial contracts, including complex EPCI projects; familiarity with major construction contract forms like FIDIC, NEC, etc., is a plus.
  5. Strong business judgment, ability to analyze complex legal issues, and communicate risks effectively.
  6. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities.
  7. Excellent collaboration skills and customer orientation.
  8. Willingness to handle tasks of varying sizes.
  9. Pragmatic approach with succinct legal advice and strong relationship-building skills.
  10. Availability for occasional travel.
  11. Excellent English communication skills; CVs must be in English.
