Job summary

Equans Solar and Storage seeks a Lead Electrical Engineer with extensive HV substation and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) experience. You will lead design, development, and execution of electrical systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards and client requirements across projects in France and abroad.

You will mentor engineers, coordinate with civil/mechanical teams, and support sales during bidding and project delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5–7 years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on substation and BESS design (OEM or EPC).
• Proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD, ETAP, SKM, Cymcap); knowledge of SCADA, PLC testing, and commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Develop and review detailed designs and layouts for substations and BESS, including schematics and single-line drawings.
• Provide technical guidance on equipment selection, protection and control, grounding, and power distribution.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable standards/codes for relevant countries and perform design reviews and testing.
• Lead engineering projects from conception through completion, coordinating with cross-functional teams and documenting calculations and drawings.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership within the team.

The Energies Business Unit (BU) is comprised of two main activities:

• The T&D division, operating under the Bouygues Energies & Services brand, specializes in the transmission and distribution of electricity. This includes overhead lines, high-voltage substations, underground connections, special foundations, and T&D services.
• The Photovoltaic and Battery Storage division, under the Equans Solar & Storage brand, is a unique partner offering integrated, high-performance, large-scale solutions for solar & storage projects in France and internationally.

What You'll Be Leading

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in high voltage substation and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) layout and design.

This role involves during sales and execution stage leading the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems and ensuring all projects meet technical specifications, safety standards, and client requirements.

This role involves leading the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems throughout both the sales and execution phases. You will ensure that all projects meet technical specifications, comply with safety standards, and fulfill client requirements.

Your main responsibilities:

• Develop and review detailed designs and layouts for substations and BESS, including electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and general arrangement drawings.
• Provide technical guidance and support in substation and BESS design, including equipment selection, protection and control systems, grounding, and power distribution.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations for the applicable countries.
• Perform design reviews, inspections, and testing to ensure quality and performance of electrical systems.
• Work closely with clients together with the business development/bid manager during the commercial phase and with the project manager during the execution phase. Mainly to understand their requirements, provide technical solutions, and present design concepts and project progress.
• Lead engineering projects from conception through completion, ensuring timely delivery within budget. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including civil, mechanical, and structural engineers.
• Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including design calculations, reports, and as-built drawings.
• Mentor and train junior engineers and provide technical leadership within the team.

The profile we’re looking for

• Education: Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on substation and BESS design (preferably OEM or EPC).
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g.AutoCAD, ETAP, SKM, Cymcap), knowledge of SCADA systems, PLC programming testing and commissioning.
• Soft Skills:
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strong capacity to maintain a “helicopter view” (seeing the big picture) and outstanding communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and prioritize and execute tasks efficiently in a fast-paced, parallel workflow environment.
• Travel: Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
