Job Description:

AESC Group is a global leader in high-performance batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems (BESSs), with R&D centers and over 13 manufacturing bases worldwide. As part of our expansion, we are establishing the GEC Europe, working closely with our global teams in the US, China, and Japan. This position in Douai involves approximately 30% regional/global travel. You will join a diverse team skilled in battery cell manufacturing and experienced in scaling battery production facilities globally.

Your role

As a Laser Welding Engineer, you will lead the development, optimization, and implementation of laser welding processes for battery cell and module production. You will analyze existing processes, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to improve efficiency, quality, and productivity. Your responsibilities span from equipment design to full-scale process implementation, qualification, and troubleshooting, ensuring laser applications meet industry standards and performance targets. You will collaborate with equipment and process engineers, production teams, and our global engineering network to support the scaling of our battery manufacturing operations in Europe.

Your responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and optimize laser welding processes for battery production.
  • Analyze current processes to identify improvements and implement changes.
  • Conduct trials, monitor data, and adjust processes to enhance performance.
  • Collaborate with equipment engineers to ensure seamless integration of new machinery.
  • Lead initiatives to reduce waste and improve cycle times.
  • Maintain process control systems for consistency and quality.
  • Provide technical support and training to local engineering teams.
  • Document process changes, trials, and improvements for knowledge sharing.

Your profile

  • University degree (bachelor’s or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related fields.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in laser welding, preferably in battery manufacturing or similar industry.
  • Deep knowledge of laser welding principles, techniques, and equipment.
  • Experience setting up and monitoring laser welding applications and systems.
  • Knowledge of welding monitoring and quality inspection systems like Lessmüller or Precitec.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with process improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma or Shainin.
  • Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis tools.
  • Ability to conduct trials, analyze data, and refine processes.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in Spanish or Chinese is a plus.
