We are hiring a Junior UX Designer for our Design Team. Junior UX Designers play a vital role in the success of Ubuntu, the Canonical developer experience, and our Infrastructure and Enterprise products. There is an expectation of growth to deliver outstanding UX experiences and to take ownership of your product’s design.

Our design team aims to transform complex, open-source software into efficient, intuitive products that can change how complex systems are built and demonstrate what open source can achieve for enterprise IT. We seek a talented, passionate UX designer who shares these ambitions.

This role reports to a UX design manager and is based remotely in the EMEA region.

The role entails
  • Working with the open source community and Canonical customers to research new features and improvements
  • Collaborating with product managers and engineers to shape product development
  • Aligning design efforts with product strategy and best practices within the team
  • Evolving and evangelizing design systems to ensure consistency and efficiency
  • Understanding the interconnected constraints of your work
  • Supporting working groups to enable horizontal design efforts

  • Exceptional academic record from high school and university
  • Bachelor's or equivalent in User Experience, Design, STEM, or a compelling alternative narrative
  • Knowledge and passion for user experience, technology, and design
  • Commitment to continuous learning, curiosity, flexibility, and a scientific approach
  • Result-oriented with a drive to complete work and celebrate success
  • Confidence in user research practices
  • Engagement with the latest design research and innovations
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events lasting up to two weeks

UX designers should be excellent communicators, comfortable working with engineers, designers, and executives. They must represent the team at cross-functional meetings, articulate their design position clearly, and connect their leadership to the company's strategic vision.
