Offer Description

Within the institute, the postdoc will be part of the Organometallics: Materials and Catalysis (OMC) team, and be involved in the molecular materials for optoelectronics thematic. He/She will work under the supervision of Ludovic Favereau on the development of persistent chiral organic open-shell systems, exhibiting potentially high-spin (triplet) ground state. In addition to the synthetic aspect, the candidate will explore the experimental and theoretical optical, chiroptical and spin properties of the obtained organic radicals, and evaluate their potential in organic field-effect transistors (OFETs), organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), and spintronic devices

The postdoc will contribute to the design, synthesis and photophysical characterizations of the targeted molecules. More precisely, he/she will be in charge of elaborating the synthetic strategy to efficiently obtained the desired products as well as their complete photophysical studies using classical spectroscopies (absorption, luminescence) and electrochemical method (cyclic voltammetry). He/She will analyze and optimize the chiral organic phosphorescent materials in function of the obtained performances for the first derivatives. He/She will be involved in the writing of reports on the advancement of the project and of scientific publications. The research engineer will also contribute to the scientific animation of the group by the supervision of master and PhD students.

The "Institut des Sciences Chimiques de Rennes" (ISCR – UMR 6226) is a Mixed Laboratory associating CNRS (INC et INSIS), the University of Rennes 1, the "Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Rennes" (ENSCR) and the "Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Rennes" (INSA,Rennes). This Institute, created in January 2006, results from the gathering of the different strong thematics in chemistry in Rennes. It includes around 290 permanent employees, among which 143 Professors and Assistant-professors, 64 CNRS Researchers and 82 Engineers and Technicians, in different sites in Rennes and Lannion, with a total of 500 members. Its organization in eight teams of different sizes efficiently combines a good administrative gestion with high-level scientific activities, covering a large panel of disciplines in chemistry. The chemistry in Rennes has a strong expertise in the conception and synthesis of molecules, of crystals, of tailor-made materials, with dedicated properties, thanks to well-adapted engineering tools. It specifically addresses: molecular chemistry (organic, organometallic and coordination), materials from solid state chemistry and metallurgy, catalysis, electrochemistry, computational chemistry, and engineering of chemical processes.

The applicant must hold a PhD in organic chemistry with a strong expertise in synthesis and photophysical characterizations of pi-conjugated molecular materials. Fluency in spoken and written both English and French is a requirement to present the obtained results in project meetings and scientific conferences and to write scientific publications. He/she should be highly motivated by experimentation and should possess organizational skills as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
