FULLY FUNDED 3 YEAR PHD STUDENTSHIP IN MACROMOLECULAR CHEMISTRY AND ADVANCED MATERIALS
Thesis subject: “Advanced materials: a sustainable vision. From network design to defined performances”
Opportunity: Applications are invited for a fully funded 3 years PhD studentship in synthetic organic & macromolecular chemistry and materials science under the supervision of Pr. Alice MIJA at the University Côte d’Azur. The studentship will start at the beginning of 2025 and is open to applications from UK/EU students without further restrictions.
Project: The central goal of this PhD project is to develop novel, sustainable and cost-competitive thermosets starting from side products of biorefineries. This work is in collaboration with an R&D company and has a strong focus on the characterization of some side products generated by biorefineries. These side products will be chemically modified to develop innovative and sustainable materials. Green chemistry processes will be applied to natural molecules, allowing access to the synthesis of diverse sustainable monomers for the production of high-performance thermosets and composites. The focus of this project will be to develop greener, intensified functionalization strategies using renewable and non-toxic synthons.
Candidate: Eligible candidates should have a Master degree in chemistry with experience in organic and/or macromolecular synthesis. First-hand experience in fine chemistry is highly desirable. A highly motivated and dedicated student will gain thorough training in macromolecular chemistry and material sciences and will be rewarded with a highly stimulating project that will shape the future of a potential industrial route for the production of bio-based thermosets and composites.
Application: Interested applicants should send a brief covering letter outlining their motivation and experience for the position, as well as their curriculum vitae (including all University course grades to date) and the contact details of at least 2 academic referees to Prof. Alice Mija (alice.mija@univ-cotedazur.fr). Applications will be evaluated on an ongoing basis until the position is filled; therefore, applicants should apply as soon as possible.
