Presentation of the project

Taking an interdisciplinary approach, the MR2S project aims to gain a better grasp of the particular social and cognitive dynamics that so-called intelligent devices produce by drawing primarily on collaborative design practices and the experimental method. Its aim is to design, test and assess the inclusion of a robot in the therapeutic mediation process in partnership with a care centre for children suffering from autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The person recruited will be associated with the ETIS laboratory (UMR 8051, CY Paris Université, ENSEA, CNRS / https://www.etis-lab.fr/) and will work closely with the doctoral student already recruited as part of the MR2S project.

Responsibilities of the position

Social robotics for therapeutic purposes is mainly based on technical devices that take the form of humans or animals. The aim of the project is to test the therapeutic potential of a social machine without relying on anthropomorphic or zoomorphic aesthetics. To achieve this, the MR2S project aims to design a flexible robot based on the principle of tensegrity and incorporating a Swept Frequency Capacitive Sensing sensor.

The position involves two main sets of tasks:

  1. Based on the work carried out by a mechatronics intern recruited for 6 months in 2025, the first task will be to design the entire robotic system (mechatronics and programming). We will provide the new recruit with all the technical documentation resulting from the work carried out during the course. The aim is to implement a fully operational prototype.
  2. In addition, the aim will be to implement and support the tests and experiments planned as part of the MR2S project in the first part of 2026. Conducted in the context of the thesis associated with the project, these human-robot interaction experiments represent a key step. The work carried out by the person recruited will be promoted by the publication of the results obtained during these two phases.

Skills

  • Knowledge: Proven knowledge of electronics and IT.
