Offer Description

General context

Since 2019, Futura Gaïa company grows plants with unique characteristics, thanks to innovative growing systems on living soils in a controlled environment. The company grows plants for food, pharmaceutical, neutraceutical, or cosmetics applications. Monitoring and controlling all growth parameters allow them to obtain optimized plants that comply with sustainability, stability, and innovation criteria sought in the cosmetics industry.

This project aims at developing several active ingredients starting from various innovative plant samples. These ingredients are expected to be applied to pharmaceutics, cosmetics, perfumery, food additives, etc. Because of the long experience in the elaboration and analysis of natural extracts, the MVBV group (Métabolome et Valorisation de la Biodiversité Végétale) part of the SPACE group in the Institute of Chemistry in Nice (ICN, UMR CNRS 7272) is now collaborating with Futura Gaïa to develop natural active ingredients from raw materials provided by Futura Gaïa.

Project

Preliminary results gathered by the two partners of this project have shown that Futura Gaïa’s technology leads to an improvement of certain plant characteristics. Research activities to be carried out within this project are meant to develop innovative active ingredients based on plants exhibiting a characteristic phytochemical footprint.

The project includes a thorough investigation on the optimisation of plant growth, eco-friendly extraction, as well as evaluation of biological activities for all resulting extracts. Results include the development of 1 to 4 active ingredients for cosmetics applications, as well as the creation of new and ecological methods for the production of extracts. Work will be divided into 5 tasks:

  1. WP0: Project management
  2. WP1: Optimisation of plant growth via elicitations
  3. WP2: Biological activities, phytochemical composition of extracts and study the impact of elicitations
  4. WP3: Optimisation of extraction using eco-friendly extraction steps
  5. WP4: Evaluation of end products biological activities as well as safety and toxicity properties
