Offer Description

The “Institute Européen de Chimie et Biologie” (IECB) is a multidisciplinary research institute at the University of Bordeaux hosting research teams working on the interface of chemistry and biology. Our research group is moreover associated with the “Laboratory of Membrane Biogenesis” (LBM), which has a research focus on the metabolism and physiological functions of membrane and non-membrane lipids in plants and yeasts.

Our current work aims on the identification of novel microbial derived lipidic elicitors of plant immune signalling and their perception mechanism in Arabidopsis thaliana. In order to achieve this, we use analytical chemistry methods (chromatography, lipidomics, MS, NMR) and classical molecular biology and biochemistry methods. The offered position is within the frame of a collaborative project between two IECB research teams (Elia Stahl and Pierre Maisonneuve) and aims on revealing structural insights of lipid recognition by plant receptor-like kinases. To achieve this, the project will combine in-planta functional characterisation of candidate receptors, bio-chemistry-based methodologies and structural biology (X-Ray crystallography and cryo-EM).

We are looking for a proactive and curious individual demonstrating independence but who is also motivated to participate in collaborative projects and in working as part of a team. The candidate should have a strong interest in plant molecular biology and/or protein biochemistry. Additional experience in analytical chemistry methods and/or plant immunity will be assessed positively. Working language is English and the candidate should be fluent in English (oral & written). The potential candidate will be integrated in both collaborating research teams, trained for the required techniques and will be supported for other academic aspects such as conference attendance, master student supervision and grant & manuscript writing. Expected starting date is October 2025.
