With over 15,000 students, a multidisciplinary academic offer comprising more than one hundred national degrees, and high-quality research laboratories that earn it a place in the Shanghai ranking, Université Savoie Mont Blanc is a human-scale institution that combines academic excellence and professional training, strong regional ties and broad international outreach. A member of the European UNITA alliance, the university operates across three campuses—Annecy, Le Bourget-du-Lac, and Jacob-Bellecombette (Chambéry)—and offers a wide range of short and long programmes (University Diplomas, University Bachelor of Technology degrees, Licences, Master’s degrees, PhDs, and Engineering degrees).
The Institut de Recherche en Gestion et Économie (IREGE) is a research unit of Université Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB). The researchers at IREGE, combining expertise in management and economics, pursue investigations around a unifying theme: “Environmental and Innovation Choices”, organised into two main interdisciplinary axes: Environment, Sustainable Consumption, Tourism (ECDT) and Innovation & Organisational Development (IDO).
The ANR-funded ECOS Project (The Emotional Consumption of Vulnerable Spaces) brings together a research team from three academic partners: the LUMEN laboratory at the University of Lille, the IREGE laboratory at Université Savoie Mont Blanc, and the MRM laboratory at the University of Perpignan Via Domitia.
The project aims to investigate individuals’ emotional experiences in response to visible environmental changes and how these experiences shape lifestyles and consumption practices. In the context of the Anthropocene, rapid and profound environmental transformations are generating new forms of vulnerability—particularly emotional—which remain insufficiently studied.
The ECOS project thus aims to analyse the interactions between emotional experiences, the perception of environmental and territorial vulnerability, and the adaptation of consumption practices, adopting a socio-cultural perspective on consumption and markets.
The project will rely on an extensive qualitative data collection effort across four French territories considered particularly vulnerable for different reasons: glacier retreat in Savoie, coastal erosion in Martinique, drought in the Pyrénées-Orientales, and extreme climate events in the Pas-de-Calais.
The project pursues three main research objectives:
