Offer Description

Description of the research subject

This postdoctoral position is part of the ASTRAL research project, led by LAUM and funded by the French government and the Safran group. The overall aim of the project is to better understand, model and optimize the acoustic treatment of aircraft engines. This post-doc aims to understand how acoustic energy can be fully absorbed in a multimodal problem. When only the plane mode propagates in a waveguide, two detuned resonators are needed to achieve perfect absorption at a single frequency and in the absence of flow. What happens to this condition when several modes propagate in the waveguide? Such conditions can then be used to analyze and design acoustic treatments for these engines. The focus of the work will be tailored to the skills and experience of the selected researcher. The work will mainly consist in formulating theoretical models and developing the numerical resolution of these models.

Planning research project

The project will start in 2025 and run for 1 year. The first phase will focus on analyzing the scattering matrix. In a second phase, the conditions for obtaining perfect multi-modal absorption will be validated numerically.

Assigned activities and expected results

The successful candidate will be responsible for
- Formulating and analyzing the scattering matrix.
- Design a sample acoustic liner.
- Numerically and experimentally validate the prescribed conditions.
- Publish in international peer-reviewed journals and participate in international conferences.
- Collaborate with other ASTRAL project partners and contribute to meetings and reports.
