Contemporary researchers in molecular chemistry have a societal responsibility to develop transformations and constructions of new molecules with varied properties (for medicine, diagnostics, materials, etc.), while minimizing the environmental impact of the processes implemented in the spirit of a more sustainable chemistry.
With this in mind, the AlcaFer project aims to develop new selective (with atom-economy and stereoselective issues) and soft (energy-economy) synthetic methods, using visible light activation and photocatalysts derived from earth-abundant metals such as iron complexes.
The recruited PDRA will be in charge of:
- Setting up the reaction conditions for the iron based photocatalysis, the synthesis of various ligands, and the transformation of the obtained products.
- Purification of the obtained compounds using regular purification techniques (flash chromatography, crystallization and so on…)
- Participation in regular meetings between national and international partners, drafting of activity reports and various publications based on the results obtained.
- Analysis and characterization by using HPLC, GC, NMR, MS, IR…
- Literature survey of the project
The institute CARMeN Rouen (ex-COBRA, UMR 6064) is gathering researchers from CNRS, Rouen University of Normandy and INSA ROUEN Normandy and is originated from the merging with the laboratory LCMT at the university of Caen Normandy and ENSICAEN. The institute CARMeN Rouen is located within the IRCOF building (Institut de recherche en chimie organique fine) at Mont Saint Aignan. 175 peoples are working within the COBRA laboratory (60 PIs, 20 technical and administrative supports, 70 PhD students, 25 PDRA). COBRA laboratory is a leading partner of the LABEX SynOrg, the institute Carnot I2C and the EUR XL Chem, a proof of the excellence of the laboratory. The position will take place in the Heterocycles teams (e-CatCH group) at CARMeN institute.
We are looking for an outstanding and highly motivated PhD candidate (M/F) in organic chemistry with excellent skills in organic synthesis and interesting in synthetic methodology, catalysis and techenology driven synthesis likewise photochemistry in sustainable chemistry. Knowledge in photochemistry and asymmetric synthesis would be an asset, but not necessary.
In addition, we are expecting:
• Good communication skills to work within a team
• Independence
• good organizational skills
• Good writing and reporting skills
