## Intern, Avatar Formats InteroperabilityApply: Rennes, France: Full time: Posted Today: REQ26-1165**About InterDigital**InterDigital is a global research and development company focused primarily on wireless, video, artificial intelligence (“AI”), and related technologies. We design and develop foundational technologies that enable connected, immersive experiences in a broad range of communications and entertainment products and services. We license our innovations worldwide to companies providing such products and services, including makers of wireless communications devices, consumer electronics, IoT devices, cars and other motor vehicles, and providers of cloud-based services such as video streaming. As a leader in wireless technology, our engineers have designed and developed a wide range of innovations that are used in wireless products and networks, from the earliest digital cellular systems to 5G and today’s most advanced Wi-Fi technologies. We are also a leader in video processing and video encoding/decoding technology, with a significant AI research effort that intersects with both wireless and video technologies. Founded in 1972, InterDigital is listed on Nasdaq.InterDigital is a registered trademark of InterDigital, Inc.For more information, visit: www.interdigital.com.**Summary**The InterDigital Immersive Video Lab is dedicated to advancing avatar-based communication. In this context, this internship focuses on interoperability between digital avatar formats using MPEG’s Avatar Representation Format (ISO/IEC 23090-39). It aims to investigate how ARF can serve as an intermediate representation between formats such as VRM, USD, FBX and DNA. The work will begin with an analysis of ARF and state-of-art on avatar representation formats (ARF, DNA, USD, VRM, FBX etc.). This analysis will cover aspects such as geometry, materials, skeletons, animation, and format-specific metadata. The intern will distinguish between encapsulating existing avatar data and converting it into another representation. A prototype will then be developed to implement selected mappings and packaging mechanisms through ARF. The implementation will address differences in data models and identify features requiring specific handling. Tests on representative avatars will assess data preservation, compatibility, and potential information loss. The results will document the supported workflows, technical limitations, and opportunities for further development. The expected outcome is a demonstrator and a technical assessment of ARF interoperability.**Responsibilities*** *State-of-art on avatar representation formats (ARF, DNA, USD, VRM, FBX etc.)** *Development of a prototype of interop platform** *Demonstrator to assess the ARF interoperability***Qualifications***Master – High level in programming, code architecture and format interoperability.
